From 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., the THORNAPPLE RIVER SPRING FESTIVAL will take place, with the Thornapple River Ramblers, exhibits from West Michigan Environmental Action Council and TRWG, and other attractions. We hope to have displays of the Hastings Riverwalk plans. A piggy roast is in the works for the lunch for our volunteers. Please join in the fun!

The River Cleanup is in two parts; Barry County Water Quality Action Committee is cleaning from Charlton Park to Tyden Park (see blue X at far right on map below). This canoe cleanup starts at 8 a.m. (Tyden Park) and ends at 1:00 at Tyden Park. Canoes are donated by U-Rent-Um Canoe Livery. Registration is at 8 a.m., and cleanup starts 8:30-9 a.m.

Call 616-945-9706 (Steve Merring) to join this group. Please call and preregister for canoe and lunch.

The second part of the river cleanup is from Tyden Park (small blue center X on map above) to Whispering Waters Canoe livery (blue X to left). This part is coordinated by the Thornapple River Watershed Group with canoes donated by Whispering Waters. The group will gather at Whispering Waters, then be transported to Tyden Park to launch canoes. At the end of the trip, the volunteers drive back to Hastings to enjoy the traditional feast in Tyden Park. Registration is 8 a.m. at Whispering Waters; preregistration is required. Canoes launch 8:30-9:00 a.m. and feast will be about 1:00 p.m. Click here for more information.

If you would like to join this group, call Patricia at 616-891-8817 to reserve a canoe and register for lunch.

Each canoe cleanup covers about 6 miles of river.

If you would like to bring an exhibit or display to the festival, please contact Patricia at thornapple@hotmail.com or at 616-891-8817.
